REPORTS PROGRESS With the drill down somewhere near C00 feet, and having penetrated the TVIan-pos TVIan-pos shale to a depth of thirty to forty feet, it is believed that the most difficult part ,of sinking the well on the Maxwell lease of the Western Allies Oil &, Gas company is a thing of the past, says the Grand Valley Times. The water, which had caused a great deal of trouble ever since the hole was spudded In. has been cut off almost entirely since the heavy shale was encountered , and it is helk-ved that after a slight additional depth is rennhed 1 the water troubles will be over altogether. On re there is no water to be cased off, nviirh faster operations will be possible, and throe or four more weeks ought to see the hole down to a depth exceeding 1000 feet. Reiera and Frank Orosso of Price, prominent stockholders of trie Western A 1 lies company, were in Moab several days til's week, and expressed themselves as satisfied with the operations and the outlook. They stated that work will not slacken until the local field is thoroughly proved out. Thp tcpnrts of geologists indicate that the first oil sand wil! be encountered at less than lioo feet, and Manager Levi is confident that this will prove the case. However, the well will be put down 1500 feet unless a flow of oil should be encountered en-countered at less than that depth. |
