Show RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIRE BILLS UNFIXED Whether the state, county or city is responsible for the bill contracted in the fight against forest fires in Parley's canyon can-yon wa-s the question raised yesterday at a meeting of the state road commissioners, commission-ers, when an account rendered to Sheriff John S. Corless by the state, asking ask-ing him to pay for the labor of a number of state employees impressed Into service, was returned unpaid. The returned bill showed that It had taken several trips, first to the county, thence to the city and then back to state officials. Sheriff . Corle?s referred the account, ac-count, amounting to $57, to City Commissioner Commis-sioner C. Clarence Neslen. Commissioner Neslen in turn wrote to Governor Bamberger Bam-berger and pointed out that since the fire had not started on city property he thought the state should provide a fund to pay the expenses of fighting forest fires. He suggested that some legislation legisla-tion should be had on the matter to care for future emergencies. The state road commission decided that there was no fund from which an appro- priation covering the expense of fighting . fires could be legally made and the ques- j tion still remains unsolved. |
