Show CITY WILL OPERATE BABY HEALTH CENTER Free Instruction in Self and Infants' Care to Be Given Mothers, Announcement was made yesterday by Dr. Samuel G. Paul, city health commissioner, commis-sioner, that a baby health center would be opened March 20 at 7o3 West First South street, to give instruction in ma ternity and' Infant welfare. Thte maternity center will be operated under the direction of the city health department and a physician will be in attendance from 10 o'clock until noon on Yednesdaj' and Thursday of, each week. Consultation during these hours will be free and the services of a nurse will be supplied at the homes of those who are unable to attend the classes at the center. The records of the department, Dr. Paul said, show a total of 352 babies, under the age of 2 years, who died In 1918. "While we do not claim that all I stillbirths or later deaths could have ' been avoided," Dr. Paul said, "we do claim that proper knowledge of the care i of children, and the prenatal influence of I the mother upon the child, would have materially Ted need.-this number. We desire de-sire and aim to: Instruct the mother as to what she should do, or should refrain from doing, in order to give her child a fair chance." |
