Show Many Tokens Signify Spring Is Here Today TODAY, by all astronomical signs and tokens, spring arrives. This momentous event, according to all astronomical signs, is scheduled sched-uled for 9:19 o'clock this morning. According to J. Cecil Alter, local superintendent of weather and things pertaining thereto, the sun is due to cross the equator on its movement move-ment northward at 9:19, mountain time, this event marking the arrival of spring. The sun, the expert ex-nlains. ex-nlains. hflfl been niovinsr toward the north ever since December 22, which waa the shortest day of the year, and will continue thus to move until June 22, marking the summer solstice, sol-stice, when it begins a retrograde movement. This, of course, being a scientific explanation, proves the phenomena of seasonal changes, having particular particu-lar application at this time to spring. Kobins, bluebirds and cropping grass and early season flowers attest the fact that spring has been here some time. But for Salt Lakers in general the real harbinger is found in the bubbling bub-bling flow from the pipes of the street drinking fountains. These were turned on yesterday, thus officially offi-cially starting spring in Salt Lake a day ahead of the almanac. |
