There appears to be a difference of opinion as to what the order should be respecting the treatment treat-ment of cayea at the Dee hospital. This developed today following the death of Dr. Harry May field at the county jail late yesterday afternoon. Tho man while in an unconscious condition con-dition was held at the sheriff's office while Sheriff H. C. Peterson and his deputies were attempting to locate Dr. W. ii. F.mmett and have him make an investigation nf the case and order the man removed to the hospital. M. P. Brown, chairman of tne board of county commissioners, when his attention atten-tion was called to the case today, said that in all coses of emergency the hospital hos-pital had been informed that it should take the case and communicate with the county physician, who could investigate investi-gate and soe if it was a county case. He also said, however, that on several occasions the ; county had been imposedupon .in cases ! sent to the hospital. i V. W. Raw son, superintendent of the ' Dee hospital, said today that no one had ! called the hospital regarding the case, j nor had anyone said anything1 about ! bringing the sick man to the hospital. He also said that Dr. V. H. l-irowu, city physician, was talking to Miss Stella Peterson, the superintendent of nurses, regarding the man, and that Miss Peterson Peter-son toid of the trouble that the authorities authori-ties of tho county hospital ot Sait Da lie had had with Dr. Mayfield, because of his alleged drug habit. Superintendent Rawson said farther that Dr. Brown advised ad-vised Miss Peterson that he did not think the case was one for the hospital. Mrs. Margaret Mayfield, widow of Dr. Mayfield, is in the city arranging for the funeral. It could not be learned whether an autopsy would be held or not. |
