Bankers and business men of Salt Lake have bceii requested in letters addressed ad-dressed to them by City 'Treasurer R. N. Young, to advise the city commission as to their judgment with regard to the disposal of tho $2,000,000 of city bonds authorized at the recent election. The commission lias not reached a decision de-cision as to the advisability of placing all or only part of tho bonds on the market mar-ket at this time. The requested letters of acjvico are to be held as received and taken up for consideration when Mayor Ferry has returned from New York. The form of tho letter sent out follows: "For their assistane in considering tho disposal of the recently authorized $2,000,000 bond issue, I am asked by the city commissioners to get your opinion opin-ion on" the following points: "Which is the better plan: To dispose dis-pose of all the bonds now or -only such an amount as will pay for all the work that can be done this year, and dispose of the remainder next year? "If the latter plan be adopted, iu view of the fact that even now nearly half a billion in improvement bonds arc being advertised by different cities and states, and that the Victory loan is imminent, is not the bond market liable to become overstocked, resulting in a lack of demand for municipal securities? se-curities? "Should the exemption that attach to municipal securities tend to maintain their desirability in the bond market "If the bonds, or part of them, are disposed of within the next thirty days, what interest rate should we be able to get? "Will the interest have a tendency upward? Will it likely be materially more within nine or twelve months than it is now? "A reply at your early convenience will be greatly "appreciated. " |
