The Cuyahoga county committee telegraphed tele-graphed the White House, taking Issue with the president's statement. Secretary Secre-tary Tumulty, writing at the president's direction, simply commended the statements state-ments ho quoted. The first quotation was from Colonel Roosevelt, Identified as Republican candidate candi-date for governor of New York in 1S98.
