Show HOI EFFECTED ffif COMMISSIONER W. J. Jensen Tells State Defense De-fense Council Details of Saving System. Outlining the work accomplished since February 1 by the Utah State Council of Defense, and showing that in Utah 1500 men have been released for war work and $2,800,000 saved in wages and operating expense per annum, W. F. Jensen, commissioner of commercial economy, submitted an elaborate report on the occasion of the regular meeting of the members of the defense council executive committee yesterday. A report transmitted to Washington by P. J. Moran, chairman of the labor exchange system, showed 2250 skilled mechanics registered for shipyard service serv-ice and elaborately classified as to ability abil-ity and experience. About-500 of these men have already been sent to the Pacific coast shipyards. The question of collecting all funds by the "war chest" method was discussed, dis-cussed, but action was deferred until the Red Cross drive is over. The committee com-mittee voted its hearty approval of the lie. I Cross campaign. Resolutions calling for the more restricted re-stricted use of pleasure cars, with the idea of conserving resources, were discussed dis-cussed and referred to the commissioner of commercial economy.
