Show TIN CANS PROMISE TO DISAPPEAR SOON Duo to the world's fast-diminishing supply of tin plate, the humble tin can, which formerly lent to the unsiprhtliness of the hark alley and which earned national na-tional recognition as the daily fodder of the famous Harlem goat, has at last jumped to a position of dignity. The tin plate which formerly was used in its construction is to be conserved to meet the demands of war conditions, and threatens to disappear as the container of foods. According to advices received yesterday yester-day from Washington, the tomato, lard and chocolate can has become a useful war commodity, and other materials will be called into requisition to take their places. As soon as the present stocks of tin cans are exhausted, which, it is said, will not exceed a period of five months, new food containers will be on the grocers' shelves, and generally they will be square, instead of round, that ;hcy may consume less space in packing and inuisportiUion.
