Show .MEMORABLE DAY. Today, September 12, will be regarded regard-ed as one of tho momentous occasions standing out in American history, for it. is the day upon which 13,000,000 men within the fighting age will register their names in order lhat they may bo called up and examined as to their fitness fit-ness for service in the greatest of all wars. Tho men who are finally selected to cross the seas will strengthen General Gen-eral Pershing's army to such an extent that the finishing stroke may be given the enemy and peace, restored to the world. So the Americau citizens who register today will have a chance to distinguish themselves and bring added glory to the flag of their country. coun-try. On tho eve of such a memorable event the people of this country aro not hysterical. Neither are they apa thetic, hveryone knows what the registration reg-istration means, and thoso who coino within tbe limits of tho law will do their duty by giving in their names as possible soldiers, and then await the summons which means life or death to many of them. We do not anticipate trouble in any part of the 1'nited .States while the work, of registration is going on, and we know that all will be well so far aa I'tah is concerned. In a week or two at most, some of the men who register today will be called to the colors and sent to the training camp to prepare themselves for the ordeal. We shall be sorry to see them depart, but we fully realize the necessity of their going forth to battle. But we are consoled by the thought that the greater the army the sooner will the world be at peA-e. |
