Show Bill PEACH DM ' A HUGE SUCCESS Thousands Participate in Big Festival and Are Royally Roy-ally Entertained. BRIG HAM CTTY, Sept. 11. Briffham Piiv's fourteenth annual Peach clay festival fes-tival and celebration has closed and will en down in history aa one of the moat succcessful from the standpoint of attendance, at-tendance, entertainment and attractions vet held here. , " The day opened with the weather idoai for the occasion and visitors began to arrive as early as 6 o'clock In the morn-jng morn-jng and continued to come until late in the afternoon. The majority arrived at about 10:30 on the regular excursion trains and in automobiles. The attendance atten-dance was variously estimated at from aOflO to 8000. The day's program opened at M o'clock when the big- parade was formed at the Central school grounds. This attraction wns led bv Marshals John H. Burt and Charles Oheal, followed by the Brigham City military band, county national guard, state firemen, Red Cross auxiliary. F'ham's old and new fire trucks, Mer- j-fVlY"' Lumber company float, Ogden S. P. military band, pioneer teamsters, pioneer knitting float, Hoxelder school farm exhibit, ex-hibit, Stohl furniture float. Kindergarten rlub, Civic Improvement club, Bonneville' Bonne-ville' Lumber company. J. H. Eott & Sons, Je Bon Ton millinery, White Auto company, com-pany, Hansen Furniture company, Stewart Stew-art Motor company, Wright Variety store, and at least 150 automobiles containing civilians. The parade moved from Second South and Main, marched to First North and countermarched to Second West and Forest. The various floats were beautifully beauti-fully decorated in the national colors. After the parade an intermission was taken until 1 o'clock, when all were invited in-vited to attend the free peach and watermelon water-melon feast at Pioneer park. The big ; fruit exhibit also was staged here and was one of the finest ever seen in the : state. Immediately after the feast the visitors visi-tors went to the baseball grounds where the main afternoon attractions took place. The first big event and best of the day was the ball game between the Wilson club of Salt Lake and the Magna Copper Cop-per team. The Magna boys led from the start and up to the last half of the eighth inning, when the Wilsons made two runs, making the score 5 to 4 in their favor. No more runs were made by either team and the Wilsons won the state amateur championship and the purse of $300. The contest was good from beginning to end. Following this, the Wild West show took place and some good riding resulted. result-ed. The balloon man made the ascension, ascen-sion, but cut the parachute loose too soon and when he alighted it was with such force that he was rendered unconscious uncon-scious for a short time. The Spanish Fork firemen gave another an-other spectacular exhibition with success suc-cess at S o'clock in the evening. Among the out-of-town visitors were Captain Fred Jorgensen and Captain J. f. Karley of Salt Lake, who represented Governor Bamberger at the festival. |
