Show NO LONGER FEAR. Some of the Germans who professed undying hatred for the people of England Eng-land and all things English, arc now rejoicing that British troops are upon German soil, for they now have a feeling feel-ing of security that did not exist when their own soldiers were in control. Order Or-der has been restored at Cologne since the arrival of Field Marshal Haig's men, and there will be no more outbreaks out-breaks while the British garrison the town. It will not be necessary -to use tbe brutal ; methods employed by the Huns in northern France and Belgiurrf to secure order, and the Germans will be allowed to go about their business unmolested, even though the town is in the hands of the British. American and Belgian troops have also reached the Rhine, and the Germans are glad to be under enemy protection. This is one of the most remarkable incidents of the war, and it shows that the ex-kaiser fs soldiers were objects of fear even in the fatherland where militarism wa9 rampant and whore every man was trained in camp for three long years. The English troops and our bravo boys, although among- the best' fighters the world has ever produced, are human beings at all times 'and miller all circumstances. cir-cumstances. .That is the reason, .why tho German people along the Rhine are glad to have them on hand while there is great danger that' a' wave 'of Bolshevism Bolshev-ism will sweep over the fatherland and reduce the country tiN llie 'leve'l of Rus sia. This is perhaps as fine a tribute as could be paid to the' British and American, soldiers, and the effect will be lasting. As the French and Belgians have established the same record in Germany, the home people of all the entente countries have a right to feel proud that, although their soldiers are invincible in war, they arc Christians in t ime of victory. |
