In fact, no fewer than fifty-six fifty-six pi? vers alre;idv have communicated with President B. B. Johnson, saying thev are ready to enlist. These fifty-six plavors, among whom is Kddie Collins of the White Sox, want to "gut in" before th" next draft goes into effect. The American League leader says this Information should be given out in justice jus-tice to the bad players and .insists they are in no wise larking in patriotism. Johnson will not reu'iest that eighteen players on each American League, club be exempted in the next draft, hut he savs be believes that during the next few weeks his idea will have given rise to some 'definite decision pertaining to thp 191 S baseball season. He says he believes the major league should not open their parks next season unless they are in a, position to present first class base- ball. Certain of the magnates, however, will contend that the majors should run even if thev have to till in the weakened weak-ened spots with college ami semi -pro players. This will be discussed at the American League meeting. |
