Show SALT LAKE REFLECTS UTAH'S PROSPERITY The Intermountain District I Shows to Advantage Over ! the Coast. i ompnrbons made from the standpoint stand-point of prosperity with Pacific coast ities are greatly in favor of Halt Lake, .-wording to V. A. Bettilyon, president of the Bettilyon Home Builders' company, com-pany, who has just returned from a trip to the coast. Mr. Bettilyon first went to San ira n cisco and down the coast. Tic spent a great part of his time in San Diego and Los Angeles. ' ' I found southern California in a more flourishing condition than that part of the state l arther north,'" ' said Mr. Bettilyon. "There are a largo number of people who have been in a Lie rich by , the war within the last two yeard who, ure buying situs near Los Angeles and ! Sun l)irgo and erecting numerous homes, several of the residences going up costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. "But Los Angeles and San Diego re- fleet the prosperity caused by the war movement and also the shipping which ha? prevailed during the last few months. Most of the great activities which I observed in San Francisco were along the water front. "My trip to California was largely fn get new ideas for enlarging and im-pioving im-pioving the waterworks system at Val Verda. " We already have a reservoir and pipe line sufficient to accommodate the people now living at the tract, but in-rH in-rH rations point to a large number of new homes to be built at Val Verda ; this fall, and it is our intention to enlarge our facilities for supplying water wa-ter and also for increasing our pipe system. "I got many valuable suggestions from my visit to California tracts which are promised for Val Verda, and which we shall embody to a large ex tent on the acre-homesite tract next year. 11 Since my return to Salt Lake I have been impressed with the brisk business activities which the city is enjoying. en-joying. The real estate market, usually usual-ly the first to suffer in time of public stress and excitement, seems to have been benefited rather than unsettled or depressed by the fact that the United States is at war with Germany. All familiar with conditions as they exist now, and with vision to forecast the probable future, are urging all who contemplate con-template building to do it now. "I believe the reason for this city's increased prosperity is the fact that I'tah is rapidly becoming a great production pro-duction center, creating huge volumes which Salt Lake transacts for the most part. "We have a lot of room to grow and f-hould bend every effort together. Vv'hile California can teach us a great many things which would make Salt Lake more attractive to newcomers, I'tah, and Salt Lake, especially, can boast of unprecedented prosperity, which has not been equaled in any other citv of its size. ' ' Mr. Bettilyon is enthusiastic with the manner in which he found Val Verda u do u his return from California. The gardens are at the height of their productiveness, pro-ductiveness, the fruit trees are laden with early summer fruit, and the tract is a- mass of summer verdure. |
