Show OVERTURNED ENGINE BLOCKS RIVAL ROAD Western Pacific Locomotive Stops Traffic Traf-fic on Main Line of Southern Pacific. Special to The Tribune. OUO-;N, Jan. As a result of a freakish mishap in which a Western Pacific locomotive completely blocked the main line of the Southern Pacific all incoming trains from the west were hours late today after successfully negotiating ne-gotiating the snow-filled passes of the amimento division. The accident, as reported by Southern Pacific officials here tod a occurred six miles west of Weils, Nov.. last night. At this point the- Western Pacific and Southern Pacific tracks are only ten feet apart. Three Western Pacific locomotives, lo-comotives, operated without a plow, were bucking drifts when the engines struck a drift ten feet deep. The first locomotice left the rails and turned over, blocking the Southern Pacific track. Tho Western Pa"ific track, although al-though damaged, is said to have been left comparatively clea r. All S. P. trains were further delayed until the track could be cleared. The snow blockade on the Oregon Short Line, so far as the I'tah and Idaho lines are concerned, was virtuaJ-ly virtuaJ-ly overcome today. It has been impossible im-possible to operate more than a few trains over the Montana division, according ac-cording to reports received here. Union Pacific and Denver & Rio Grande trains were operated close to schedule time today. |
