Show MI FEDERATION PRESIDENT IS HERE Charles H. Moyer Says Prosperity Pros-perity of Mining Helps Organization. Never in its history has the Western Federation of Miners been in a more prosperous pros-perous and sound condition than at the present time, according to Charles H. Moyer. president of the Federation, who is in Salt Lake for a few days on a general tour of the chapters throughout the western west-ern states. Mr. Moyer has just returned from British Columbia, where he attended the miners' convention held at Trail, March S to 11. More than 65,0()0 men are members of the miner's union, he said, and the present growth Is reassuring. In the past few weeks twenty-six locals have been accepted and are now in perfect working order. . Owing to the high prices of metals, which steadily rise as the war continues, more mines are opened and more men put to work daily. If the price of silver continues con-tinues as it has in the past, he said, hundreds of camps In C.olorado and Nevada which have been idle for years will open and again enjoy the prosperity they enjoyed years ago. Three thousand men are now being employed in the Anaconda An-aconda mines and more than X000 in the Great Falls district, he said, all under the jurisdiction of the Western Federation of Miners. The mining industry in general is in a very flourishing condition and wages paid at the present time are higher than In the past years, he said. Mr. Moyer will visit the locals at Tooele and Park City during the next two days and will return to Salt Lake Thursday and conduct a meeting here in the evening. He will then visit all the prominent camps in the state, later returning to his home in Denver. |
