An emphatic protest against the admission ad-mission of children to moving pictures not conducive to. their good morals was registered yesterday by the City Federation Federa-tion of Women's Clubs at their monthly meeting, field at the Commercial club. A committee appointed at the last1 meeting of the organization to investigate investi-gate conditions surrounding the admission admis-sion of children to moving picture theaters reported yesterday that at a local picture theater house where a birth control picture was shown no restriction was placed upon children of tender yearg gaining admission. Owing to the darkness dark-ness of some picture theaters the conduct con-duct of the children is not as it should be, the committee reported, and this complaint com-plaint will be brought to the attention of the local authorities by the chairman of the civic committee, Mrs. P. W. Meakin. Efforts will be made to have the proprietors of these theaters either furnish adequate lighting or exercise some supervision over the conduct of minors. The question of an appropriation for a municipal market also received the consideration of the federation, aDd a committee was appointed to wait upon the commissioners to enlist their co-operation. According to the federation a market of this kind will go a long way towards bringing the producers and consumers con-sumers closer t ogether, thus removing the profits of the middleman, and bring about a substantial reduction in the high cost of fodstuffs. Paul Armstrong, naturalization examiner, exam-iner, addressed the federation on alien education. It .became Unown at the meeting yesterday yes-terday that several members of the federation have been investigating the different moving picture productions in this city with a view to reporting on their merits from a standpoint of morality. moral-ity. Nothing objectionable was seen during the past few weeks by the women. They stated, however, that they will continue their vigilance, and in the event a production does not meet with their ideas as to morality it will be reported re-ported to the proper authorities with a view to having same suppressed. The next meeting of the federation will be held on the first Monday in February. |
