Show APPALLING TORTURE IN CHINA DESCRIBED Minor Accomplice in Crime Suffers Bums, Beatings and Broken Bones Until He Confesses. By International News Service. SHANGHAI, China., Oct. 27. The correspondent of the North China Daily News at Hiugt, in southwest Kuciehovv, seuds an appalling story of the torture of a prisoner who was a minor accomplice in a crime in which it was desired to obtain evidence against another prisoner. The torture began by beating the man's hand on a wooden block in vhieh a hollow had boon cut to receivo it. Ono hand was very soon shattered to pieces. Then the victim was lashed to the "cruel stool" twisted and contorted con-torted into various knotty parts of the stool's legs and cornel's. A piece of firewood wns brought, and the magistrate himself is said to have beaten the prisoner till there was do flesh ou his shoulder blade, after which, by way of a change, he broke a rib with a savage blow. That performed, per-formed, he is said to have removed fonr inches of flesh ii'nni one thigh by blows with the same piece of wood. When the prisoner p leaded lo be shot outright the magistrate replied: "ShootiDg is too merciful; I'll lull you bv inches." "The prisoner was then untied, and the magistrate, called for a brick .ami a twelve-ounce hammer. The prisoner's prison-er's ankle wns then placed on the brick and the ankle bones smashed with the hammer. At this point the victim's vic-tim's courage broke down and he gave the desired evidence. |
