Show POWERFUL DRIVE OF FRENCH TROOPS RESULTS IN GAINS f'ARiy, Oct. 7. Another powerful drive by the FVench troops today on tho Ypres-JJixmude road resulted in the capture cap-ture of several villages and a great number num-ber of' fortified farms, according to tonight's to-night's announcement by the war office. A n additional advance was made along the Aisne front, Including tho occupation of Kroidmont farm. The text reads: In Belgium our attack begun at 5:15 In the morning developed dur-ing dur-ing the course, of the day with full success of both sides of the road between be-tween Tpres and Pixmude. Our troops captured all the German positions posi-tions on a four-kilometer front (two and a half miles) and a mean depth of two kilometers, despite stubborn resistance re-sistance on the part of the enemy, who suffered very heavy losses. On the right we reached the western west-ern outskirts of Houtholst forest and captured the villages of Verbrandes-mls, Verbrandes-mls, Aschhoop. Merckem and Kippe, as well as a great number of strongly fortified farms. We took about a hundred prisoners. On the Aisne front there was feeble activity on the part of the enemy ar-t ar-t illery. w e ma.de new progress before be-fore the Chevrigny spur and further east occupied the Froidmont farm. There was spirited artillerv fighting fight-ing during the day In the region of the Wonts and on the right bank of the Meuse. Eastern theater, October 26 The British carried out a raid in the Struma valley, south of Seres, capturing cap-turing a machine gun and bringing back sixty prisoners, including t wo officers. The Bulgarians left sixty-dead sixty-dead on the ground. |
