Show SOLDIER AT TEN. Little Prince William, son of the crown prince of Germany, having reached his tenth birthday has been dulv enrolled in the Germany army and appointed lieutenant in the First guard infantry and made honorary colonel of a landwehr regiment. This may be said to be the beginning of the military career of the future ''war lord." Where it will end no man knows, but the outcome of the present war will have considerable to do with the matter. Old Emperor William I. who was a second son and not heir presumptive at the time, entered the Prussian army at ten and lived to become not only km,; I of P."ussia but emperor of Germany as well, the latter dignity being conferred upon him at Versailles in 1S71, during the siege of Paris. This was the climax of the greatness of the Ilohenzollern family. His grandson, the present emperor em-peror and "war lord," has risked his empire upon the outcome of the most stupendous war of all time, and it may be that the little prince who has just been enrolled in the army will never have a chance to "flesh his maiden sword." The "war lord" business is about played out. |
