Purporting to be an order of the Republican city committee, com-mittee, notice has been published iD local lo-cal newspapers calling for a mass meet ing of the Republican voters to be held in the county building nest Wednesday evening to decide whether that party shall name candidates for municipal offices in advance of the primary pri-mary election. The decision to call such a meeting, according to William Glasmann, former Roosevelt supporter, was reached by the "central committee" commit-tee" several weeks ago. The notice appearing in the newspapers newspa-pers is signed by George J. Kelly, former for-mer Weber county senator, as chairman. and J. M. Fomstall, late Progressive leader, as secretary pro tern. At the time the activities of the Republican leaders in the city, or at least a faction of the party that is largely made up of former BnH Moosers, was first announced, an-nounced, it was declared that the nonpartisan non-partisan election of city commissioners and other city officials had resulted, from year to year, iu the success or Democrats. A canvass of. the present city officials who are elected bv popular vote shows Mayor A. G. Fell.' Republican ; Commissioner Commis-sioner Chris Flygare, Democrat; City Auditor Arthur F. Larson, Republican, and Municipal Judge W. H. Feeder, Jr., Republican. Former Senator Kelly and Glasmann, sai'd to be leaders in the movement to put a hard-and-fast Republican Re-publican ticket in the field at the coming com-ing citv election, have also been leaders in the' attacks upon the city commissioners, commis-sioners, because of the recent granting of fifty-year franchises to the gas and light companies of Ogden. So far as known at the present time there has been no intimation of the identity of possible candidates for the proposed Republican ticket, with the exception ex-ception of the candidate for office of mayor-commissioner to succeed Mayor Fell. It is generally understood that A. R. Hevwood will be the choice of Kelly and Glasmann for that office. Arrangements Ar-rangements are said to have been completed com-pleted whereby a city organization will be perfected to espouse the candidacy of Heywood for mayor and Glasmann for congressman to succeed Congressman Joseph IT ott ell. The meeting in the county building will be held at 8 o'clock next Wednesday Wednes-day evening. |
