To produce that type of motor car demanded scientific engineering and designing, intelligent selection of the best materials and the highest type of workmanship Nearly 100,000 Cadillac owners will bear witness to the adherence to that policy. Since the day of its inception, the watchword of the Cadillac Company has been "Progress " The world knows that to the Cadillac Company the motor car industry is indebted for the pjoneership of many of the most marked advances v Prominent among these is the electric starting device, a feature without which no car excepting perhaps some that sell at low prices is considered complete Seeking for years the ideal power principle, the Cadillac again led the industry by being first to develop to a state of thorough efficiency for motor cars the high-speed, high efficiency V-type Engine A year ago, the V type Engine principle as applied to motor cars was almost unknown un-known in America Today it is the dominating influence in motor car development How profoundly this advance has affected the industry is evidenced by the vast array of makers who have accepted the Cadillac as the standard which they would at least strive to approach For several years the Cadillac price has been $1,975 FOB Factory Each succeeding year, however, the purchaser received greater and greater value, made possible by jmproved manufacturing methods and processes many of which were and still are exclusive with us In the preparation to manufacture the Eight-Cylinder car, there was necessitated the outlay of nearly one million dollars for new machinery, tools and appliances, in addition to an already enormous equipment We realized that to produce and market this wonderful car, maintaining Cadillac standards of material and workmanship, without being obliged to increase the selling price, would demand a degree of production efficiency never before accomplished We believed that this could be done ' We were loth to depart from the established Cadillac price and we did not depart from it The car was placed on the market Its success was instantaneous. Scarcely a person, however, who was familiar with manufacturing costs generally, who did not recognize the remarkable value m the Cadillac "Eight," and who did not marvel at our producing and marketing it at such a price It had been necessary to announce the price coincident with the announcement of the car ' 'That was before cars had begun to be produced in quantities. As there had been no previous manjiactunng experience with a car of this type, the cost of production could only be estimated. Unforeseen conditions arose conditio-s which could not have' been foreseen by v anyone We were determined that the unalterable policy before mentioned should not be violated We were determined that the Cadillac "Eight" should not fall short one iota of being the best constructed and most efficient motor car the world has ever seen When the first thousand cars had been completed, it was found that with the stnet adherence to our policies and to our determinations, we were marketing the car at a price at which there was no profit ' The actual cost of the materials alone which entered into the Cadillac car amounted to more than the entire manufacturing cost materials and labor of some cars which aspired to compete with the Cadillac Three courses might have been pursued First to decrease production costs by the adoption of leis costly material and inferior in-ferior workmanship and hold to the established price. Second to maintain Cadillac standards of material and workmanship and increase the selling price Third to maintain Cadillac standaids of material and workmanship and hold to the price originally announced, notwithstanding this u ould have to be done at a sacrifice. As we said before, these three courses were open None other than the third was even considered And 13,000 purchabcrs have profited. Each of these 13,000 puichasers have been fortunate in becoming possessed of a motor car whose worth, we believe, will not be matched for a long time to come it evei In the face of the fact that hundieds of thousands of automobile owners today are suffering the humiliation of seeing their can depreciated m value from $100 to $2000 because thejr makers have felt obliged to reduce prices on new cars the owner of an Eight-Cylinder Cadillac, on the othei hand, sees his car actually enhanced in value The prices of the Type 53 Cadillac ne as follows Seveii'Passenger cai, Five-Passenge Salon and Roadster, $2080. Three-Passenger Victoria, $2400 Five-Passengei B'ougham, $2950 Seven-Passengei Standard j Limousine, $3450 Beilin Limousine, $3600 Prices are F. O. B. Detroit j I hese prices ire consistent and legitimate prices j They are based on the actual cost or production and marketing with not to exceed i limited margin of profit added If Cadillac prices were based on the comparative woith of the cars, Cadilhcs would be among the highest priced cars m the world CADILLAC MOTOR CAR CO SiWmaii Automobile Co., Distributors 43-45 West Fourth South. - """J |
