Show SftLT LAKE II IS GIVENJIGH HOR His Opinion Is Sought on the Matter of Recruiting Advertising Malcolm McA lister of the McAl ister Ad ertfs ng a,gency has been honored b the Anier can Defense socle y by a request f om that body as to his opinion with ref erence to the forming of a national com mlttee on recruiting advertising M Mc A stersoplnon with those of other heads of lead ng advertising agencies of the country wi be cons dered in shaping the po cy of the society with reference to obtaining en stments for the regu ar army ra itary train ng camps and in the event of ar a well considered plan of nationa pub icft for recruiting The re ques came from Cush ng Stetson secre tar of the board of trustees of the Amer lean Defense society in the following letter The American Defense society has decided to organize a national commit tee on recru ng advert Is ng The pur pose of the co nmittee is to prepare p ans wh c w be available to the governmen for securing enlistments for the immediate increase of the reg u ar army m itary training camps and In the e ent of war a wel con sidered plan of national publ city for recru ting The experience of Great Britain in securing en istments bv advertising has made It clear hat the advertising method is efficient and effective Such cam pa gns however require careful p ann ng and the advice of experts Wi 1 you assist in shaping our policy b repbing as soon as possible to the foi owing questions' Do you approve of such a commit tee? Hon la ge should such a com m ttee be9 V hat ten names do ydu suggest for such a committee9 What general ideaB have jou as to the work possible for such a comm ttee? Mr McAllister s reply which was for warded last night follows Yes I do approve of such a com mlttee To be representative of the whole country I believe there should be five n en on such a committee one from Boston one from New York one from Ch cago one from the inter montane states Denver or Salt Lake and one from San Francisco or Los Angeles I would recommend that the men be selected from the advertising clubs in each section named al ow the clubs to appoint the men bj election This will create a lot of interest in the move ment I feel quite sure it would be wise to trust such an advertls ng campaign as might have to be undertaken to men who know what advertising Is Its power ef Icieney etc and who have ability to prepare the copy that will secure results Before an actual work Is done a complete sure should be made of the enti e country so that the work of the comm ttee can be In telllgently executed when the time comes for action |
