Show ! COMMERCE CHAMBER I FOR UTAHASSURED Plan Worked Out at Enthu- siastic Meeting Held I in Salt Lake. TO ADVERTISE STATE Each cf the Twenty-eight Counties Will Have Representation. i I Utah is to have a chamber of com- meree. Its purpose will be the adver- I tising of every resource aud industry of every section of the state. To this j end, an exhibit epitomizing the resources ; and industries of the state will be main- j tained. Determination to establish a chamber of commerce as a joint institution of j the counties of the state was expressed ; yesterday in the unanimous vote of half a hundred representative men from all ! parts of Utah. The gathering, which met at the Commercial club yesterdav afternoon, was made up of county commissioners, com-missioners, mayors and representatives of commercial clubs. An address of greeting and advocacy of the proposed establishment of a chamber of commerce to the end that Utah might be properly advertised was made by Governor Spr'v, at whose invitation invi-tation those present ba'd gathered. Tho governor represented that in no other way could the same amount of effective advertising be had for as little cost as by ye maintenance of a chamber of commerce such as has been planned. Williams Is Chairman. Former Senator W. N. Williams acted as chairman of the meeting and Joseph Shepherd as secretary. Others besides Governor Spry who spoke in advocation of the establishment of a chamber of commerce were the Rev. P. A. Simpkin, George S. McAllister, president of the Manufacturers' association; H. L. Mul-liner, Mul-liner, county attornev for Salt Lake county; C. It. MabeV, member of the legislature from Davis county; J. G. II. Barnes, banker and merchant, of Kavs-nlle, Kavs-nlle, and William M. Rovlanee, representative repre-sentative of tie Provo Commercial club. Sir. Roylance presented to the meeting meet-ing in the form of a motion the thought that resulted in the final action taken. In substance, his motion was to the ef-. ef-. feet that it be the sense of the meeting that a chamber of commerce be established estab-lished and maintained by the joint action ac-tion of the counties of" the state and that the committee on organization be constituted of five members, two to be added to the committee of three that undertook some time since the preliminary prelimi-nary work of organization. After amendment the motion was finally carried with the added feature that the committee be instructed to report re-port back on January 13. Thjs date was selected for the reason that rates are to be granted at that time bv the railroads rail-roads because of the holding of the conventions con-ventions here of the Utah and National TToolgrowers ' associations. Plan Is Agreed To. Practically no objections were raised to the plan under discussion. Those who were not already enthusiastically in favor of it proved anxious to learn of the plan and all finally voted for it. An eloquent appeal was made by the Rev. Mr. Simpkin. "Let's get our enthusiasm en-thusiasm over Utah's possibilities up to blood heat and we will then get results," said Mr., Simpkin. "The resources of the state should be advertised that they may be developed, to the end that the rate of taxation may be lowered because of increased wealth and to the more vital end that the young men and women of this state may find homes and occupations in the land of their nativity. " The plan for the chamber of commerce as proposed calls for its organization with four general departments. Under the department of county exhibits is to be included a display subdivided under three general heads. They are materials, ma-terials, advertising and information files. Under materials, a displav will be maintained of the representative products, mineral, manufactured, agricultural, agri-cultural, etc. Under the head advertising adver-tising a display of maps, pictures and literature dealing with various localities locali-ties will be arranged, while under the head of information will be filed data needful for answering intelligently the numerous questions that are continuously continuous-ly being asked about various sections of Utah by outsiders seeking desirable localities lo-calities for investment. Such exhibits Tinder the three subdivisions mentioned will be maintained by every county. Three New Departments. Further departments are to be those pf publicity, general exhibits and pub-lie. pub-lie. intercourse. The chamber of commerce com-merce will undertake a systematic publicity pub-licity campaign, through newspapers and periodicals, and the department of public, intercourse is designed to arrange ways and means to bring the exhibit maintained within the acquaintance of nil tourists, school children, citizens and the public generally.
