Show Hid SMELTING Slli PROFITS Company Distributing Bo nus, AH Employees Above Foremen to Get Checks In the neighborhood of 600 000 wUl be distributed by the American Smelting & Refining company to its employees according ac-cording to an announcement made yes terday by C W Whitley general man ager This Is in keeping with the policy started some time ago by the company of distributing part of its surplus. The company Increased Its pay roll some months ago distributing a surplus to the foremen and those holding lesser positions that amounts to about tl 000 000 annu ally The present distribution is in the nature of a bonus and affects all em ployees above the foremen. The checks were being distributed yeBterday The distribution is based upon the earnings of each plant, the length df ser vice of the employee and the salary re celved. The distribution goes to those above the foremen including the boss carpenters the master mechanics clerks and such others as were not affected by the raise in the wage schedule The total distribution for all the plants, mines and other departments of the com pany In the United States and Mexico coming under this plan amounts to $600 000 this year while In addition to this there has been set aside a fund of $260 000 for betterment purposes This will be used for the Improvement of sanitary and social conditions at the various plants throughout the country It will be used for the establishing of bath houses lockers improvements in change houses and the like.
