Show CHIEF CONSOLIDATED 5f PIMLD ORE Carload Lots Show No Sensational Sen-sational Values, but General Gen-eral Average Is Good. MAMMOTH TO RESUME May Day Raise and Winze to Connect Within Next Fifty Feet. Directors uf the Chief Consolidated iliniuy company are scheduled to hold . their regular meeting at Honghtou, Mich., during the early part of the com-. com-. ing month and it is reported that the semi-annual dividend "will be passed, says the Eureka Reporter. There is . substantial surplus in the treasury of the company, but , in view of the fact that silver is bringing such a poor price, ; and the possibility of there being no . change while the war continues, tho of-; of-; ;1 fieials of the eornpanv Indie ve that it is advisable fo retain tho present ?ash re- eerve. Tho regular report to tho sharehold- ers of the company has been compiled and. is now being printed for distribu- '. tion during the coming week. Very satisfactory conditions exist nt '! the Chief Consolidated mine and not-: not-: withstanding the poor prices on lead , and silver this property is maintaining ! ' a heavy tonnage. Recent reports indi- cate that some of the ore being forwarded for-warded to the smelter contains good gold values, and the S00 level is now producing a considerable quantity of ore . m which the gold values predominate. No Sensational Values. : In carload lots this ore has not been 1 bringing any sensational returns, but the general average is good and just at this time when the other metals ''are off color" the management is inclined i to pay considerable attention to the ; mining of this character of ore. The new gold strike on the Dragon Consolidated promises to be about the i most important of recent discoveries 1 and a telephone message received from ; the mine indicates that the body of gold 1 ore is fully twelve feet in width. Like ! all gold ore in Tintic, the values are 1 continually changing. The assays run - ! from f?5 to $175 per ton, but just as the ore is broken down it will carry over $30 to the ton. At present this ore is being mixed in with the coper ore which ; is coming from the same part of the ; Dragon, and an effort is being made to , hold the combined values up to about $20. ' This new gold deposit is on the 600 ' level of the Dragon and it is from this level that most of the mine's shipments . are now coming. The copper ore, or the best grade of it, carries from S to ' 10 per cent of the red metal, and some i ; of the stopes have opened up splendidly during the p;tst few months. Mammoth to Resume. ; Preparations are now under way for resumption of work at the Mammoth I . mine, which was closed down several weeks ago. ' During the past week the water sys- 1 tern which supplies the camp of Mam- 1 moth, the Mammoth mine, the Emerald ' and some of the other properties in that ' part of the district, has been giving 1 some little trouble, and while there ap- I pears to be danger of a water famine, : the officials of the Mammoth Mining ' company, which owns the water system, ' have a number of men at work in an effort to keep the line open. The first . trouble was caused by the breaking of I the water pipe, and "aftnr a couple of i ; bad breaks nad been repaired it appears : that the line is frozen. ! May Day to Ship. I Through the kindness of the Grand ' Central company, which has a water ' line extending through Mammoth, tho iT'TODle of this camp have been supplied free cf charge with all the water that : thv need for culinary purposes, but this wafer must be carried or hauled to the ' . residence.-;, in most cases groat distance I from the watr lice. 1 The Emerald mine Fu?pendM work early in the week, being unable- to se-' se-' cure the watr needed for the boilers. :- Fifty feet of work will be sufficient to connect tho raiso and the winze at the ; Mav Day and it is generally understood that immediately after making this con- Dec tion the company will commence the J shipment of Brmie of tho ore that is now ' piled up at the mine. I The winze, for which the raise is now being driven, followed tltf ore for a distance dis-tance of fully eighty feet. As soon as 1 the ore can fhe handled at a minimum ' sxpense the May Day people will follow l the new vein and get a bettor line on ;he extent of the new ore body. |
