Show NUMEROUS ARIZONA TOWNS UNDER WATER Rain and Snow In Central and Southern Portion of State Cause Floods. PHOENIX, Ariz., Jan.' 30. Rain and Bnow in the central and southern por-tion3 por-tion3 of the state have brought about floods almost as disastrous as those of a month ago. Streets here and in Globe, Miami, Glendale, Tucson, Bisboe, Tempe, Buckeye and Arlington were under several feet of water tonight. Ranchers in the lowlands wero forced today to flee for their lives, and nmich livestock and wild animals m the Riverside Riv-erside park zoo here were drowned. Total To-tal damages will aggregate considerably more than $200,000. The Salt river rose out of its banks, the flood attaining a volume greater than the most memorable high water heretofore, The Santa Cruz, Gila and Riliito rivers poured torrents over their vallevs. Globe and Miami were isolated for several hours today. One weak wire was working tonight. Over this came word that at one point more than 1000 feet of railroad track had been washed out. This was the only point at which railroad traffic was completely suspended. |
