There has been a change in one of the courses at the University oi Utah this vear which has attracted wido attention. atten-tion. This particular course is "English "Eng-lish Ono," for years ono of tho most unpopular studies required of Freshmen. Students havo been required to write iheines five times a week and liston to somewhat academic lectures on tho technical tech-nical qualities of composition. This year, however, experiments Tmve been undertaken. The new plan' originated orig-inated with Professor Keynolds and, with the co-opcratiun of six other members mem-bers of tho English department, he is now testing out the general scheme. The . new plan aims to arouso interest in ' contemporary events and to stimulate oral and written discussion upon thorn. Consequently the students havo been reading essays on education, on social life and manners, on economics and business. Nearly 500 students, registered in the course, took the midyear esamiua-tion esamiua-tion last Saturday afternoon. |
