Show DR. FRAZIER WILL RECEIVE XMAS MAIL AT AUCKLAND, N. Z. Don't be surprised if, one of these days, you open a nationally nation-ally circulated magazine and see a picture of Dr. Russell G. Fraz-ier, Fraz-ier, now enroute to the antarctic aboard the Byrd expedition's boat, the North Star, endorsing a well-known brand of cigarettes. cigaret-tes. For, according to Dr. Frazier, "I have signed my life away; they have photographed me in everything from a wash tub to playing cards. So if you see Al Wade and me staring at you from the magazine ads and smoking, you will know that the glamour girls are on relief." Dr. Frazier says his schedule has outlined itself beautifully as fnr the 14 months the planned for the 14 months the expedition will be on the ice at Little America. Up to the present pres-ent time no doctor has brought back any work on antarctic medicine me-dicine that has been valuable enough to print, Dr. Frazier says, and he "figures this is my one big chance to contribute something some-thing of value to my profession." If you have a friendly message mes-sage you'd like relayed to Dr. Frazier, this is how it can be done: Mail reaching San Francisco before December 5 will be received re-ceived by Dr. Frazier at Auckland, Auck-land, New Zealand. Address Dr. Frazier in care of the postmaster, U.S.S. North Star, Byrd Antarctic expedition, at Auckland, New Zealand. Letters require a five cents stamp. Mr. C. D. Wagoner of the General Gen-eral Electric company, 1 River Road, Schnectady, N.Y., advises all members of the Byrd expedition expedi-tion that Station WGEO, operating operat-ing on 31.49 meters or 9,550 kilocycles, kilo-cycles, will resume "mail bag" service to the Antarctic continent beginning Friday, December 8, 1939 at 11:00 p. m. (Eastern Standard Stan-dard Time). The programs will be broadcast by SHORT WAVE every two weeks thereafter. Friends and relatives are invited I to mail messages to Mr. Wagoner, so that they will be delivered to him not later than one full day before the broadcast is scheduled to go on the air, but no messages should be more than 50 words in length. Friends and relatives in Schenectady or vicinity are invited to attend the broadcasts and talk directly to East or West Base if satisfactory contact can-be can-be made. There is no charge fo "mail bag" service. . |
