Show WANT NEW ARRANGEMENT. Water Owners and Ucera on Spanish Fork Rlvor Decline Government Terms. Special to Tho Tribune. SPANISH FORK, Jan. 30. The following follow-ing letter has been sent to the United Stales reclamation commission at Washington,- D. C, by J. M. McCrecr, president presi-dent of the Strawberry Valley Water Users' association: Your communication of recent dato was duly received and in reply will state that it is- irnpoKSiblo to get a majority of. the owners and usera of Spanish Fork river to accept your proposition of 38,500 acre feet per unnum as a typical river, or as the agreed amount that tlio reclamation servlco proposes to be the established right of said old canals. For fear that you are not entirely conversant with the situation here, I wish to call your attention to the following facts: There aro live old canal companies receiving water from Spanish Fork river, and two of these companies own 17-3-1 of ,the said river, and In these two companies comparatively com-paratively few of the stockholders own and control a majority of the stock, and these largh shareholders deslro to purchase from the government govern-ment but little, If any, of tho reser-volred reser-volred water, ho it is impossible to moot the requirements of tho government. gov-ernment. On the other hand, there aro a great majority in actual numbers under un-der said canals, who own llttlo or no water at all and these persons are very anxious to purchase from tho government water for their lands. It seems that a means should ba devised whereby these people should be given an opportunity to purchase such water as they desire, regardless regard-less in which canals they have llttlo or no voice. Tf you can suggest a plan whereby those people can purchase water from tho project, a satisfactory arrangement ar-rangement could doubtless be made. |
