A demand de-mand for food was made upon tho city today by IfiOO unemployed men who are here planning to continue their march to "Washington, D. C. . City and county authorities decided that no more food will be supplied the men. When they began arriving in divisions divi-sions several days ago they wero given supplies of flour and other necessities. "General" Kelly, in command, said tho men were becoming desperate from hunger and that If food was not furnished fur-nished them by tomorrow he could not control them any longer. When the men. made camp here, having arrived In trains furnished by Benlcla and other towns near San Francisco, to get rid of them, there wero two factionsKelly's fac-tionsKelly's men and scccders. Tho factions reunited today, with Kelly in command. Offers of transportation to San Francisco, Fran-cisco, from which city the men started, wore made today by a citizens' committee, commit-tee, but only a few men accepted. Will Be Shipped Back. The reunited so-called army of unemployed unem-ployed will be shipped back to San Francisco Fran-cisco by special train tomorrow at the expense of Sacramento cltlzons. A fund of $2500 lias been raised for this purpose. pur-pose. Fifty policemen and fifty deputy sheriffs will bo recruited to load tho men on cars. The failure of this force to dispose of the men in this way will result in calling out tho militia. Announcements to this effect were authorized au-thorized tonight following conferences between county and city officials, citizens citi-zens and railroad officials. Governor Johnson sissured the authorities authori-ties that martial law would be declared if a riot ensued which the police could not handle. Militia Assembles. Adjutant General E. A. Forbes tonight ordered infantry militia companies from Orovlllc and Chico and the Stockton battery bat-tery of field artillery to assemble at the state arsenal here and join the two Sacramento Sac-ramento Infantry companies and ono cavalry cav-alry troop already assembled. 1x men walked Into a restaurant here tonight and, after being served, refused to pny for their meals.
