Show COiUCTOB FATALLY mutjimib Til Thomas E. Allen Suffers a Broken Neck and Dies in Hospital. Thomas Ju. Allon, ono of the best known freight conductors In the employ of the Denver & Ilio Grande Railroad company In this city, died at SU Mnrk's hospital ,-it 0:30 o'clock last night as the result of a broken nock. Tho Injury which caused Mr. Allen's doath was suffered about 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Tdr. Allen for some tlmo past had had a run between Rait Jako City and Melpor. Shortly -before l:?.0 o'clock yesterday yes-terday afternoon ho pulled out of tho city with his train. About two mllea out somotlilnp caused the Iraln to givo a violent vio-lent Jork and Jlr. Allon, who was seated in a chair in the cnboosoi was thrown backward vlolontly. His head 3truck the iloor and his neck was dislocated at the base of tho skull by tho impact. The train was immediately brought to a standstill, when it was discovered that Mr. Allon was unconscious. At tills time another train was coming into Salt Lake, nnd as there la a douhlo track at tho point, it was an easy matter to flag it. Dr. Warren Benjamin, ono of the company com-pany physicians, was on board and he took chnrgc of Mr. Allen and brought him to the city, after which he was removed re-moved to St. Mark's hospital. Everything possible was dono for the injurod conductor, con-ductor, but ho died without regaining Allon had been a resident of Salt Lake for about ten years, having come hero from Montana. Hn was one of tho most popular conductors on tho road. A wifo and one child survlvo him and, so far as known, ho left no other relatives, rela-tives, Mr. Allon was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors, in which order ho carried Insuranco of $3000. Ho also carried an accident policy for $2000. Ho was bqrn in Owonsburg, Ky. Tho "body waa removed to tho undertaking under-taking establishment of O'Donnell & Co.. and funeral arrangements will bo made later. |
