Show MOTOil WORRIES OVER TBI WRECK Special to The Tribune. OGDEN", Due. 7. With tho excoptlon of O, F. Vogol, the motorman on tho northbound train, and who is said to bo Jointly responsible with Conductor L. IL Patterson for the accident, all persona who were Injured In the head-on collision of two Bamberger trains near Lnyton last night aro out of danger and only slightly Injured. Only four of the -number brought to Ogdcn on the relief train at 11:30 o'clock last night are now at tho Dee Memorial hospital. Motorman Vogcl Is suffering more from the shock than from the actual Injuries which he sustained. Ills right foot was crushed, some of the smaller bones being be-ing broken, and his back was sprained and wrenched when tho southbound car telescoped the car In which he was riding. rid-ing. , "How Vogel escaped being Instantly killed I cannot understand," said Conductor Conduc-tor Patterson last night after agisting the Injured motorman lo the hospital. "Tho vestibule portions of thoso cars aro made of wood and they break up Hko kindling wood when anything like this happens. Tho wholo front of the car where- Vogcl was riding was caved In by tho southbound car." Every effort was mado by Dr. E. M. Conroy, the attending physician; and the nurses to drive the thoughts of responsibility responsi-bility from tho motorman's mind, but ho has been restless since tho accident. No effort has yot been mado to establish a reason for his failure to observe the usual orders regarding the' passing of the southbound car at the Layton switch; According Ac-cording to Iho ofllclals of the road, the motorman and conductor arc equally responsible re-sponsible for the operation of tho trains. Of the six victims of the accident who were brought to this city and taken to the Dee hospital, two were released today. to-day. Rather they released themselves. D. IT. Goldstein of Salt Lnko, who suffered suf-fered only minor Injuries, refused to remain re-main at the hospital today, and J. D. Flandt of Layton arose nnd loft the hospital hos-pital this morning without tho uoual formality for-mality of being checked out. Flandt had a alight sculp wound and a bruise on his right leg. Those remaining at the hospital. In addition ad-dition to Motorman Vogcl, are Mrs. 8. FranccH, Miss Fannie Gravea and J. IT. McCowan. In tho case of the women, the attending physician and nurses declare de-clare that thcv, are Buffering from tho shock and frlgnt rather than from actual Injuries, although both were bruised and shakon. Mrs. Frances, an In tho case of moat of the others, sustained Injuries to her back. McCowan's Injuries aro not considered serious. The three patients other than Vogcl wcro kept at the hospital hos-pital today that they might enjoy complete com-plete rest rather than on account of their Injuries. In the accident last night, aa In no loss than two others which have occurred on the Bamberger electric line, tho element of luck, good fortune or some other delivering de-livering quality prevented a great loss of life or wholesale injury to the thirty or more passengers on the trains. It Is Inexplicable In-explicable as admitted by both employees employ-ees of the road and others, that two electric elec-tric trains operated at such speed as the Bamberger cars are run could crash together to-gether head-on without more serious results re-sults than those of last night. Although the southbound car telescoped the vestibule ves-tibule of the other, neither car left the rails. |
