Running over dusty roads throughout the day, the Indiana automobile manufacturers who are on their way to Los Angeles, pulled into Springfield tonight in the same order or-der which they started from Terre Haute, 150 miles away. No difficulties were encountered en-countered on the second day's trip, and aiva the changing of a tire on the Mar-mon Mar-mon car entered by the Prcstolltc company, com-pany, no extra work had to be done. The last leg of the day'3 trip was made in fast time, the cars rolling into Springfield Spring-field almost on schedule time. The party went directly to the state house, where Governor Dunne presented Ray McNa-mara, McNa-mara, driver of the piloting car, with an American flag which will be carried through to the const. After the presentation presen-tation the touring party drove out to the Lincoln home, to pay their respects to the man for whom the rock highway movement has been named. During tlvo evening the Springfield iCountry club entertained the tourists at Its home outside the city and an enjoyable enjoy-able evening was spent in talking over iho events of the trip to date- Carl G, Fisher and Charles A. Bookwalter, advocates advo-cates for the transcontinental highway, were deep In a conference on good roads problems with Governor Dunne, and the good roads committee of this city. Tomorrow To-morrow night, when the tour reaches St. Louis, the same kind of a meeting will be held with Governor Mnjor of Missouri. The run to St. Louis will be mnde over the Alton way, a distance of 116 miles. Tho party will leave the courthouse in this city at 7:30 o'clock. |
