Show BONE REPORTS ON INSUKE LOSSES Willard Done, state insurance commissioner, com-missioner, yesterday stated that tho fire loss in Utah for tho year 1911 was 33 .1-3 per cent. This ratio is, according to the commissionor, lower than the averago throughout the United States, as most other states average av-erage 40 to !;) per cent. The amount of premiums paid tho companies during dur-ing 1011. amounted to $969,2S7, and the losses paid amounted to $325,173. Mr. Done explained that tho low ratio in this state ifl due to tho fact thsit tho "moral" hazard, which is the risk due to incondinrlsm and criminal carelessness, is practically lacking in Utah, The "physical" hazard, which takes into account-, tho construction, content:? and other features of a build ing, is also less in Salt Hake than in other cities, owinu- to the great breadth of tho streets and tho fact that houses are not crowded together. The gravity system of water supply in this cit.'v also tends to lessen fire risk. Mr. Done said yestorday that hc was told recently by an insura.uco man of this city thajl; a sufficient pressure can be devolopcd from tho "reservoir at First; South and Thirteenth b'ast streets o tliTOw a stream of water over the I Hotel Utah. |
