STEEL CORPORATION THE LOWEST BIDDER WASHINGTON, Mnrch 30. The United States Steel corporation wns the lowest bidder for the construction of six emergency emer-gency dams to be erected on the Panama canal. Bids for this work were opened today at Isthmian canal commission offices of-fices here. Tho steel company's bid was 52,238.087, while tho bids of tho McCllntock-Mar-shall Construction company of Pittsburg wero $40,000 higher. The third bid by Ihe Pennsylvania Steel company was ?lfi5,000 higher than the lowest bid. Two of tho emergency dams will be located at tho Mlraftoro locks, two at Gatun and two at Pedro Miguel. Thoy aro for use only in caso of frcshot and may not be needed moro than once or twice a year.
