TRAVIS LOSES TO EVANS IN INTERESTING MATCH PTNEHURST. N C. March 30. Charles J. Evans, Jr.. of Edgewator defeated de-feated Walter J. Travis of Garden City at tho sixteenth green in their golf maich today. Interest In the contest was unprecedented, a gallery of fully 500 following the players throughout. Travis made the turn In 41 to 47 for Evans and four down. Coming In, the tenth nnd eleventh were halved. Travis won the twelfth, lost the thirteenth, won thc fourteenth and fifteenth, and lost the match on the sixteenth, four-five. The bye holes were played and halved In threes and fours. National Champion Fowncs won a close match from I. S. Robeson of Rochester, the last four holes being halved and the eighteenth deciding In Fownes's favor, fa-vor, one up.
