Show SELF-DEFENSE PEES IDE DYARMSTRONG Negro Charged With Murder of Bartender Insists Homicide Was Justified. The slate has rested its case against Hoy Armstrong, the negro on trial for tho murder in the first degree for killing kill-ing J. B. Brennan, a bartender, on the night of August 21. 1010, in an altercation alter-cation over Kay Woods, a woman of the underworld. S. A. King, attorney for the defendant, defend-ant, made his openiug statement to the jury Thursday afternoon. The defense will plead self-defenso and will endeavor en-deavor to show that the dead man fired the first shot in the quarrel which resulted re-sulted in Brennan's death and in Armstrong Arm-strong losing his left arm. Dr. H. B. Sprague and. Mrs. J. B. Brennan were on the witness stand Thursday morning for the state, while G. T. Stafford and Patrolman G. A. Peterson testified in the afternoon. Dr. Sprague gave testimony in an attempt at-tempt of the state to show the position of Brennan whon thcshots were fired. Mrs. Brennan was recalled on cross-examination. |
