The ovcrzcalousness iof representatives of John Cort in the matter of dismantling the Grand opera-house opera-house immediately after tho expiration of the Cort lease of the playhouse, came near resulting In the abandonment of the annunl commencement exercises of the Ogdcn high school, which were held there this evening. When the committees in charge of arrangements ar-rangements went to the theater to prepare pre-pare the building for the exercises, a sight that could only be equaled by the destructive force of, a Kansas cyclone mot their astonished gaze. Without the knowledge of the owners of the building, the house had been completely ransacked of all fixtures. Everything stuck ou or nailed down, except the paint on tho walls, had been wrenched, jerked or pried loose from the fastenings. Carpets, scenery, scen-ery, chairs from the boxes, and fixtures of every description in tho dressing rooms had been quietly hauled away. The committees immediately got busy, and through their efforts the theater was put into fairly good condition for the exercises. D. C. Eccles. one of the owners, own-ers, was notified, and expressed much annoyance at the manner in which the building had been left. One of the teachers teach-ers expressed himself as agreeably surprised sur-prised after the first shock, to find that the drop curtain had been left. |
