| Show of baals hilding GoTera soney washington dec 18 in response to the resolution of the house acting secretary has sent that body a list showing the several banks in which public money is deposited the purpose of these deposits etc it shows there are of these banks of chib are marked general and marked surplus the banks marked general have active accounts receiving and disbursing public moneys daily and were designated as depositor ies for tha convenience of public officers in their vicinity these marked sur have inactive account they simply receive on deposit to the credit of the treasurer of the united states designated the about aliey were allowed to hold in proportion to the amount of united states bonds famished as security therefore there has since been no change in such accounts except for the purpose of reducing the holdings of said repositories depositories deposit ories by transfer to the cub treasury no interest has been or is now paid into the treasury by any of such repositories depositories deposit ories in return for the use of public funds authority to designate the banks as repositories depositories deposit ories is contained m section of the revised statutes |
