Show HiRAM iiil MEETS DEATH II BLASTING Is Killed ly "Missed Charge" at Hatclifown Project Lasl Thursday. Special to The Tribune. MARYSVALE. Nov. 28. Word v.-as received re-ceived here about 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon that lllram llannon had been killed by a slow blast at the diverting dam about four miles southeast of 1'an-gulteb, 1'an-gulteb, sixty miles south of this place. llannon was a resident of Marysvalc. and at the time of the accident was working for the slate on the llatchtown reservoir project, supervising the blasting. blast-ing. At noon of Thursday eight holes were loaded with a half-keg of black powder to each hole. Seven of the charges wore exploded. At 1 o'clock llannon llan-non and his men went to work, the former for-mer going directly to the "missed hole ' on the point of rocks about thirty felt above the river. While ho was waiting for a man to get a shovel the delayed charge exploded Hannou was hurled in the air, and fell on his head among the rocks on the bank of the river. He died while being con-veved con-veved to Pnngultch. No particulars ot the accident could be learned y until the arrival of the men who left here Thursday Thurs-day evening to bring the body to Murys-vale. Murys-vale. About two vears ago llannon came hero from Leadvillc. Colo. He was an expert miner and was careful In handling explosives, ex-plosives, and It was just one of those unfortunate un-fortunate occurrences that no human foresight can prevent. Almost two years ago he was admitted to the Richfield lodge of Odd Fellows, and the members took charge of the preparations for the funeral service, which was held at 'A o'clock this afternoon. The deceased man leaves a family of several sons and daughters, only one of whom Is a resident of Ctnh. He was sober. Industrious and generous. The loyalty of Odd Fellows to Iheir brethren Is proverbial, nnd the death of Hannon was occasion not alone for loyalty, loy-alty, but for an exhibition of signal devotion. devo-tion. As soon as news of the accident was received here Thursday evening. Bon T. Ashbv and Jacob Mohr were on the road to 'Pangultch to get the body and bring It here. The night was boisterous, and the road in a frightful condition, but the slxtv miles was covered in fifteen hours. After preparing tho remains for transportation, Ashbv and Mohr left Pangultch Pan-gultch at 2 p. m. Friday and arrived hero at 7 o'clock Saturday morning, having had neither rest nor sleep, and having been exposed to a blizzard during Iho greater portion of the trip |
