The .Journal de Conimerrio today publishes a four and one-half column statement of the Alsop claim, cabled by tho stalo department de-partment at Washington to tho American Ameri-can ambassador here, and sovoral of the other papers print large exeorpts, indicating indi-cating tlic interest that tho promiso of arbitration has aroused. All the papers pa-pers express satisfaction that an amicable ami-cable agreement has been reached. Will Probably Accept. WASHINGTON, Nov. 2S. Tho stale department today received a cablegram from tho Chiloan minister of foreign affairs stating that tho Spanish vorsion of the protocol between tho Unitod States and Chile, referring the Alsop claim to arbitration, had been sent to Washington for verification. Both governments gov-ernments have agreed to the proposition that King Edward bo arbiter in the dispute which involves damages to an American syndicate of more than $1,-000,000, $1,-000,000, and while no formal attempt has been made to discover whether or not tho British monarch will act, it is believed that ho will accept. |
