President Taft In bidding goodbye today to Walter J;iy Clark, who Is to be inaugurated at uncau as governor af Alaska October 1, announced ho probably would visit the far northwestern territory next summer. It is reported that if tho president should go to Alaska next year ho may extend his trip to Includo tho Hawaiian Islands. Secretary of State ICnox also wns present pres-ent at the conference. Neither the president presi-dent nor Secretary Knox would discuss Dr. Cook's discovery of the North pole. When the secretary was asked what the state department oughl to do with the pole, ho laughingly replied: "Annex It, of course." President Taft has a touch of sciatica which may keep him off the golf links for tho remainder of tho week. |
