Tho dispatch which covers this matter follows: fol-lows: CHICAGO. Jan. 23. Tho Western Passenger Pas-senger association, It waa announced today. to-day. ha3 agreed on a one-fnre for the round-trip rate to the next Grand Army of the Republic reunion at Salt Lake City, and a rate of 1 cents a mile to the Christian Chris-tian Endeavor convention at St. Paul. Xo agreement was reached as to regular summer sum-mer excursion rates. In discussing tho rato granted, at tho Commercial club Saturday afternoon, Col. F. M. Sterrctt, oxecutivc director of tho forty-third nutional encampment, said that the rato would avorago the best that had ever been granted to tho Graud Army at their encampments. The G. A. R. was given a rato of one cent a mile to tho encampment at Denver Den-ver in 1905. Tho present rate would bo about onc and one-fifth cents per mile, from Chicago to this city over the shortest lines, or a trille over one cent per mile by way of St. Louis, and from eastern points a small fraction less than onc ceut per mile. |
