Show I SUFFERING MUCH PAIN AS RESULT OF ASSAULT Special to The Tribune. OGDEN", Jan, !i.-A.s the result of the vicious attack made upon hhn in his office of-fice yesterday .afternoon by Thomas O. Morris, a paper hanger. Judge Volney C Gunnell of the juvenile court lies at his home on Fowler avenue suffering much rain from a long cut over his left eye, resulting re-sulting from one of the broken lenses of his eyeglasses, which were smashed by the blow. From tho version of the affair given by Judge Gunnell' s son and those having offices of-fices nearby, the assault was brutal, cowardly, cow-ardly, vicious and without provocation. Morris Is reported as saying his reasons for tho attack arc that Judge Gunnell. a short time before, called him a liar over the telephone when he had accused the attorney of misappropriating funds belonging be-longing to Morris's wife. When he reached Judg Gunncll's office, Morris says, Judge Gunnell reiterated what ho had said over the telephone and then he ptruf:k him. Morris says he was not arrested. Chief of Police Browning, on the contrary, sent an officer out to find him. and ho was brought to the station, where he was held until the county attorney allowed him to leave on his own recognizance, after exacting ex-acting his promise to appear in court when the case is called. When Judge Gunnell is able to get out, it Is understood that Morris will bo prosecuted pros-ecuted vigorously for his attack. |
