Show .1 LADIES DAY AT POULTRY -SHOW ; BRINGS OUT BIG ATTENDANCE i 3iday was ladies' day at the poultry show and many took advantage of the opportunity in the midst ot the details of their shopping to drop into the Jong room at 322 South ATain street where tho feathered bcuiuj-ies arc showing themselves in all ,'thePr glory of voice, and plumage. By noon all tho judging had been completed and the fortunate oxhibitors were lolling their friends how it aH'happened. Great satisfaction was expressed b.y every one at tho manner in which r. Heimlich apportioned the awnrds and tho association has engaged him for judging at the exhibition which thev intend to hold next year. The birds wcro all on their good behavior be-havior Friday. The. sleepy biddies woko up and tho tall roosters strutted about especially for the ladies. As on tho provious days the fancy birds came in for the larger share of attention and there was a crowd at all times in front of the pens of Polish birds and thc Orpingtons. Or-pingtons. The pigeons and the little bantums were a great attraction, too, for tho ladies and especially for the children. Some black breasted rejj game bantams also came in for' a large share of notice from every one. In point of size the best exhibition at tho show this year was that of Rhode Island Ecds, Tho chicken fanciers of this State have been giving especial attention at-tention to this breed during the past year and as a result the scores ran higher than ever before. The prize-winner at. the annual exhibition of 1007 scored only 01 points, whereas this year many of the birds received scores near 9 and the highest m ran up to 95i points. This very high rating was accorded ac-corded to a handsome cockerel owned by Gcorgo A. Poulter of Ogden. It was a" single comb bird and took the pre cedqnec among some 250 Rhode Tsland Tfeds on exhibition. In this class Orson II. Hewlett won the second prize for cockerels, with a score of 9.5 points. Tho competition was very close among the twenty five birds and Mr. Hewlett won by 011I3- a slight margin. One of the most coveted prizes in this class, however, was the special given for tho best colored birds in a single pen aud this was carried off by Mr. Hewlett with his Salt Lake bred birds. . Tn tho class of Black Minorcas, a big cockerel which won first prize was afterward sold- for $30. This was not considered a 4 high price for the bird and it was said that among the Bhodo Island Reds and the White Wyaudottes, which are especial favorites with fanciers fan-ciers at this time, offers of over $.100 have been refused for some of tho birds. -Saturday will be children's day aud the children will be admitted free up ( to noon. . . , List of Prizes.
