Show i THE FLEET'S GOOD PROGRESS. Jfhc fleet of United Statos battleships is reportod as arriving at Punta Arenas on time. It was scheduled to arrive i there 011 January 31st, and promptly on j that dale we hear from it entering into j the channel which leads lo the 'harbor 1 at Punta Arenas. Tho fleet was sched-"tiled sched-"tiled to remain at that port until February Feb-ruary 5th, and this programme will probably be followed. There seems to have been somo bad weather, fogs. etc.. but as far as reported no damage was done, tho fleet is in good condition, and all on board are in good health and spirits. The fleet' is now at the critical point. If it gets through the channels and out into the Pacific without damage, there is no reason why there should bo any matcrial accident thereafter. It will be a good whilo, however, before we hear much about tho fleet after it leaves Punta Arenas. The next stopping stop-ping place is scheduled at Callao, Peru, a distance of 2350 knots from Punta Arenas, but probably scout boats will give news of tho Hect off the Chilian coast. The schedule is that the fleet will arrive at Callao on February ISth, aud leavo there on the 28th; a stop of ten days, which is the longest slop in any portion of tho trip until Magda-lena Magda-lena Bay is reached on March 14th. It is good news that the fleet has arrived ar-rived on timo and in good condition at Punta Arenas. It will be even better bet-ter news when wo hear, as wc hope to do on February ISth, that tho fleet has arrived at Callao in oqualty 'good condition, con-dition, and with its officers and men iu good health. It is a groat voyage, and so far is getting on in the happiest possible pos-sible manner. |
