Show City, County Will Kelp Cover Ditch The last page in a battle to cover the ditch on Pages Lane appears to be about completed. A group of residents from that area appeared before the Bountiful city council Wednes day evening and asked some support from the city. The county was also asked for aid. Action to cover the ditch started last summer after a young child was drowned in the swirling spring run off waters. At that lime the council was asked to cover the ditch. Residents Resi-dents were told the city had no funds to do this. It was also found the ditch is partly in Bountiful and partly in the no funds. county. The county also had They were told, however, if they could raise the money tiie city and county would install in-stall it. A corporation was formed to handle the money, and work started. A number of money raising projects were presented, present-ed, including cake sales, etc. On lop of this many families contributed $50. Through their efforts, they told the council, they had raised rais-ed $1700. This is short by $600. The exact amount will not be known until a definite price for the pipe can be obtained. Councilman Lamar Parkin said the group should be complimented com-plimented for its hard work. Although there are many other streams and ditches in the city he said the city should go half way with Die county to supply the remainder of the money. The city may well be able to assist others in the same way, if they will work as this group did, Mr. Parkin said. Prices for the necessary 800 feet of 30 inch concrete pipe will be obtained. Work should be finished in February before spring runoff starts. |
