Show Dump Closing Delayed j Until 1st of February to have a separate dump, Commissioner Com-missioner Briggs said. Councilman Council-man Lamar Parkin agreed. But, he said. Bountiful has been providing the dump for several years (eight) and cannot can-not continue. It would be best for the area if the county operated it, he said. Mayor Harold L. Pope said .he state board of health also agrees with this. It is easier to operate, and can be kept more sanitary under county operation, oper-ation, he said. It now costs 25.9 cents per month, based on 3000 ships, lo operate the dump, City Manager Alvin Sessions said. In a final vote, the council voted to extend the closing until February 1. By then cither the county will take it over, or it will be closed and operated only for Bountiful residents. The Bountiful city council v-oted Wednesday night to! postpone closing the dump from the January 10 deadline I lo February 1. The extra tirm1! was allowed lo see if something some-thing can be worked out with the county. Originally the dump was to have closed January 10 to dumping of all but residents of Bountiful. County Comn-iissioner T. Amby Briggs told the council Wednesday night the county would liko to continue using the dump if an arrangement can be agreed on. County equipment has ben used to push back the garbage. For some time the county has been discussing taking over and operating the dump. However, it would have to levy additional taxes to buy equipment. And since there will soon have to be land fill operations, this will require heavy equipment, he said. The commissioner asked the council to offer several possible pos-sible plans, so if one could not be accepted at this time, another an-other might. j Several plans were discussed. discuss-ed. One would have those wishing to clump buy a card, or pay by the month and by the size of loads dumped. Objections Ob-jections to this were that it would involve too much book work. Another would have the county lease the clump, operating operat-ing it until next years tax money is received. The county would charge whatever is needed to operate the dump. jUnder this suggestion Bountiful Bounti-ful residents would be exempt from paying. Or the monthly garbage charge would be reduced. re-duced. Council members felt, however, how-ever, the best way is for the county to take over operation, eventually buying the dump or leasing it on a long term basis. It would not be wise or practical for each community |
