According to tho police, po-lice, he admitted to them yestcrdny that he had robbed one of the largest department stores In the city, besides several residences, In the last few months. Boos jestingly reminded the police that he himself had raised the hue and cry one night a few weeks ago when a burglar was chased out of the residence of F. P. S. Crane, a wealthy man. He said the police were close on him before be-fore he got out of the house, and that ho ran abend of them, shouting, "Stop, thief! Catch that man!" Works "Stop Thief" Ruse. Thl ruse worked so well that Boos resorted to It ngaln a few nights later when he had forced his way Into the nome or j. u. Pendleton, and from which he was frightened by an alarm. Boos Is regarded as a modern social highwayman. Hp drew a large salary as superintendent of the big transit corporation and lived In good style In apartments on one of the best streets In the city. lie was popular In society and. dressed in the latest fashion. lie was apparently one of the busiest men In town, had time for nothing but his work, and seemed an exemplary man of business. Amnzcd at Arrest. Great was the amazement when It he-came he-came known last Friday that he had been arrested and locked up. The charges against him were made by the officials of the transit company. It was charged that the superintendent had stolen a large quantity of copper wire from the company and sold It to a Junk dealer. A subsequent search of Boos' fine apartments revealed plunder for which the police had long been looking, and which. It Is alleged, was taken from a department store and prlvnte residences. resi-dences. Confronted with the goods, Boos, It Is said, confessed. Has Fine Apartments. Boos' bachelor apartments were the best In town, nnd. Incidentally, he had added to their comfort by tapping the wires of the company from which he drew a large salary and furnishing his rooms with live incandescent lights. |
